I founded the law firm of ADAMS ESQ over 15 years ago to help other parents of children with special needs. But what I didn’t know was how very much ADAMS ESQ parents would help me. The Nightmare IEP Meeting.
My first IEP meeting was awful. The school district refused to include my child’s teacher and instead randomly plucked a stranger out of an empty classroom where she was eating her lunch. The district’s speech therapist conducted a 20-minute “drive by” assessment and then refused to consider the detailed private testing that I offered. The IEP was already completed by the school district without any input from me. The worse part was the special education coordinator who got up during the meeting, stomped around to the back of my chair, and screamed over my right shoulder demanding that I sign my agreement to the woefully inadequate IEP. I refused. “No parent should have to endure this abuse”, I thought.” This is not how the law is supposed to work”. That was the moment that ADAMS ESQ, a special education law firm, was born.
The Gift from ADAMS ESQ Parents. The goal of ADAMS ESQ then, as it is now, was to fight for special education and related services for children with disabilities. Because we generally charge parents only $1 (yes, One Dollar) for representation, I expected this to come at significant financial risk for my own family-and it did. However, what I did not expect was the manifold gifts in return.Your courage strengthened my resolve even when challenging some of the largest school districts in the country.Your prayers fortified my faith, your persistence fueled my determination, and your sacrifices focused my vision on what ADAMS ESQ could achieve. Most of all, your love for your children sustained and deepened my compassion for the families that we are so privileged to represent.
